Teeth Whitening

We offer teeth whitening to make your smile look radiant and healthy. Using a combination of a 6% hydrogen peroxide gel and a LED lamp that accelerates the teeth whitening process, results are generally 5 to 14 shades lighter and lasts for about 12 months (depending on your lifestyle). A session takes approximately an hour and it is recommended that clients have 2 to 3 sessions to maximise the benefits. Teeth whitening is safe for crowns and veneers but results will be less than whitening of natural teeth.

Improve your smile with a teeth whitening treatment that cleans and bleaches.

Teeth Whitening After Care

After teeth whitening, natural teeth will gradually re-stain over time. Re-staining will accelerate when exposed to lifestyle factors such as tea, coffee, red wine, and smoking. Directly after the teeth whitening treatment drink only water for the first hour and eat and drink only a white diet for 24-48 hours after the treatment. This gives the pores in the teeth time to close and minimise re-staining from any coloured foods or drinks.

You will receive a copy of an Aftercare Guide which specifies what foods and beverages you should not consume within the first 12-24 hours.

Possible complications and risks of teeth whitening

A teeth whitening treatment may cause inflammation, tingling or stinging if the gel contacts the soft tissue areas of the mouth (i.e. gums, lips or cheeks). This may cause whitening of these areas briefly. If this occurs, we will remove the gel from the soft tissue immediately. Limit moving facial muscles during a whitening treatment to reduce the likelihood of any inflammation.  Any inflammation will only be temporary and dissipates within 24 hours.

Existing sensitivity issues such as recession exposing root surfaces, exposed dentine, untreated tooth decay, cracked teeth, abfractions, open cavities, leaking fillings or other dental conditions may experience sensitivity or it may allow higher penetration of the gel into the tooth. This may increase or prolong tooth sensitivity or pain after a teeth whitening treatment.

Dry chapped lips may occur after a teeth whitening treatment as the mouth will have been kept open continuously with the cheek retractor and been covering the lips for up to 1 hour. This could result in dryness or chapped lips or cheeks, which can be treated by applying lip balm or Vitamin E after treatment.
